There is a growing menace to our culture, our society, and our biblical beliefs from the occult. This song was written expressly to deal with that threat and to point out to our young people that the occult is not something fun (even though it is often disguised that way...e.g., the Harry Potter Books that many of our schools are using). In fact, it is all a "MASK."
Satan comes to us as an "angel of light" covering up his true evil nature. As this song points out, we need to be girded in the word, and armored against the temptations of "The MASK" (or Satan). Ephesians 6:10-18, Romans 13:12-14, and Deuteronomy 18: 9-13 All talk about wearing the armor of God.
Satan was cast down, as this song points out, and now he wanders over this earth seeking whom he may devour. He does it by making himself look "harmless, and fun" just the way he lures young people into trying that first marijuana cigarette. "It can't hurt you"...is the lie...but where it and all evil lead..in a direction away from God...that CAN hurt. In fact, it can and does, destroy lives.
The controversy over the Harry Potter - witchcraft/wizard books should make us as Christians stand up and take notice. There are even Christians who have applauded them as "harmless" just because they seem to be attractive to our children and encourage them to read!
It is true, these things may be harmless, but with all the wonderful available literature and classic literature our children can be reading, why would we want to introduce something so questionable to our children's impressionable minds? Why introduce that first step that may lead on to things that are NOT so harmless?
Recently, we went on to the internet and found not just a few, but a myriad of web sites dedicated to the occult and witchcraft! Astounded and concerned, we narrowed our search to only one state within our country only to find another plethora of available sites! Sadly and now more concerned than ever, we narrowed our search yet again, and found a huge number of TEENAGERS (8 pages worth just in the state of Indiana!) who were claiming to be practicing witches and who were reaching out to others to "mentor" them! 80% of these teenagers claimed to have been into witchcraft just one or two years. We need to be attracting these teens to Jesus! This song, hopefully, will awaken the need to stand strong against Satan.
